2012 First Museum Visit of the Year!

On the 14 April (Saturday), as the first musuem visit of the year 2012, Ms Ellen Tay led 12 of our Art Club and H2 Art students down to the ArtScience Museum @ Marina Bay Sands for a fantastic visual treat:

First up, we had an awesomely enriching time at the Andy Warhol - 15 Minutes Eternal Exhibition. For the first time in many of their lives, our students got to see the legen- .....wait for it......... -DARY artworks of famous Pop Artist Andy Warhol up close! We even got to pose with the legen-.... wait for it..... -DARY Campbell Soup can!

The exhibition features a wide range of Warhol's creations, some of which were lesser known. From his illustrative works for the fashion industry to his highly provocative polaroid shots of celebrities and close friends, to the deadpan imitation of Kelloggs Cereal and vibrant Pop Art animals, our students were not only viewing the works but also learning about the artist from the highly informative curator's comments found on the walls in the exhibition!

From the galleries, students learnt about his influence and technique, and interacted with some of the artworks to understand why, even today, 25 years after his death, was Warhol hailed as one of the greatest artists of the late twentieth century!

Thinking of going home right after that? NO WAY! Because our tickets entitled us a complimentary visit the Titanic - The Artifact Exhibition, also at the ArtScience Museum! WooHOo!!

Part of the 'Things You Get' package when you first enter the exhibition venue. The name on the Boarding Pass belongs to an actual passenger on board Titanic. Towards the end of the exhibition, you get to check if 'you' survived the tragedy.

The exhibition was really cool and history seem to come alive as you examine the real artifacts and stories of actual passengers who were on board the Titanic! ArtScience Museum had reconstructed authentic, notable spaces within the huge passenger liner who sailed to her doom 100 years ago,  and we get to re-live the experience and story behind the terrible tragedy. 

This was a truly a beautiful, yet haunting experience and to say the truth, I walked out of the exhibit feeling rather affected, but definitely more informed and fascinated with this enigmatic legend.
